Reba McEntire said she’s “thankful for the time we had together” as she paid tribute to her late “stepson/oldest son.”

Brandon Blackstock died on August 7 after a years-long battle with cancer. He was 48. McEntire, 70, was married to the late talent manager’s father, film producer Narvel Blackstock, 68, from 1989 to 2015. McEntire previously said she considered Brandon Blackstock a son to her, and shared photos of the pair together on Instagram on Tuesday evening (August 12) as she paid tribute to him.

“Last week, my stepson/oldest son Brandon Blackstock went home to be with God,” she wrote. “His struggle is over and he is in eternal peace in God’s presence. There is no one else like him, and I’m thankful for the time we had together. His legacy and laughter will be carried on through his family. Rest in peace cowboy. Happy trails to you til we meet again.”

McEntire’s son, Shelby Blackstock, 35, whom she shares with Narvel Blackstock, also mourned the loss of his brother. He wrote on August 8, in part: “Words cannot begin to capture the tremendous loss our family has endured. Yesterday, we lost a brother, a father, a grandfather, and a son. Brandon Blackstock was an irreplaceable part of our family—funny, bright, and full of life—and he will be deeply missed. …We will always miss you, Brandon, and we will never stop loving, remembering and celebrating you.”

“Very well said Shelby. Yes we will miss him so much.💔💔🙏💔❤️❤️❤️🙏💔,” McEntire wrote in a comment on Monday (August 11).

Brandon Blackstock is survived by children Savannah and Seth from a previous marriage, grandson Lake, and children River and Remington, whom he shares with ex-wife Kelly Clarkson. Savannah also recently announced she’s pregnant with another child.
