New Jersey native Amanda Anisimova is set to compete in the women's final at the US Open after a thrilling victory over Naomi Osaka. The 23-year-old from Freehold Township defeated the 23rd-seeded Osaka in a grueling three-set match, securing her place in the final against top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka. The final will take place on Saturday (September 6) at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.
Anisimova's journey to the final was marked by resilience and determination. She rallied from a set down to beat Osaka 6-7 (4), 7-6 (3), 6-3 in just under three hours. Anisimova praised Osaka's performance, saying, "Naomi is playing amazing tennis... She was really giving me a run for the final." Anisimova's win over Osaka marks her second Grand Slam final appearance this year, following her runner-up finish at Wimbledon.
In the final, Anisimova will face Aryna Sabalenka, who is aiming to defend her US Open title. The two have a storied rivalry, with Anisimova leading their head-to-head record 6-3. Their most recent encounter was at Wimbledon, where Anisimova emerged victorious. Sabalenka, seeking her fourth Grand Slam title, will be a formidable opponent, but Anisimova's strong performance this season suggests she is ready for the challenge.
The men's semifinals are also underway, with Carlos Alcaraz facing Novak Djokovic and Jannik Sinner taking on Felix Auger-Aliassime. The winners will meet in the men's final on Sunday.
