State fire crews are currently battling the Buckabear Wildfire, which erupted near the Clinton Reservoir in West Milford Township, Passaic County. The fire started on Tuesday afternoon (September 2) and has since consumed over 70 acres of land. As of Tuesday night, the fire remains 0% contained, according to an update from the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
Despite the growing size of the wildfire, no structures have been threatened, and no evacuations have been ordered. Fire officials have closed Clinton Road between Goldfinch Lane and Van Orden Road as a precautionary measure. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities are working diligently to determine its origin.
The Buckabear Wildfire has not yet reached the status of a "major wildfire," which is defined as exceeding 100 acres in size. The New Jersey Forest Fire Service is expected to provide another update on the situation around 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday (September 3).
According to NJ.com, the fire service continues to monitor the situation closely and is taking all necessary precautions to prevent further spread.
