George Strait’s benefit concert raised $6.25 million to help “those affected by the catastrophic flooding across Texas’ Hill Country,” the legendary country star confirmed on Monday (July 28).
Strait headlined the sold-out event, titled Strait To The Heart: A Benefit for Hill Country Flood Victims, on Sunday (July 27) Boerne, Texas. The lineup also included Ace in the Hole Band, William Beckmann, Ray Benson, Wade Bowen, Dean Dillon, Riley Green, Randy Houser, Jamey Johnson, Kyle Park and Hudson Westbrook, plus a surprise appearance by country icon Garth Brooks.
“The evening served as both a heartfelt tribute to the resilient spirit of the region and a critical fundraiser to provide immediate relief to impacted families,” reads a post on Strait’s Instagram account on Monday, which also includes a link to make donations. “Proceeds from the event and contributions made online will be donated to the 501(c)(3) Vaqueros del Mar Texas Flood Relief Fund and distributed directly to affected families and established Hill Country recovery efforts.”
“The destruction and loss in our community from the recent floods is hard to wrap your head around. Our hearts and prayers are with you all,” Strait said when he announced the event earlier this month. “The goal with this event is to raise meaningful, immediate support that can be put directly into the hands of flood victims without delay, while also honoring the first responders that work tirelessly to save lives. Special thanks to our friends and fellow troubadours…for joining me on stage to lend their talent and their hearts to this mission.”
