The Columns Museum in Milford will host its annual Civil War Encampment Re-enactment on Saturday (May 10). Running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., the event will feature demonstrations, drills, and exhibits that bring to life the experiences of Civil War soldiers. Admission is $15 and includes entry to the museum, while children under 10 can attend for free.
The re-enactment will be led by Company G of the 142nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, a group committed to preserving the history of the original regiment. This unit fought from August 1862 to May 1865, participating in significant battles such as Gettysburg. During the event, attendees can expect to see period dress, weaponry, and routines from both soldiers and civilians of the era.
A special highlight of the day will be an appearance by President Abraham Lincoln, who will address the troops at 1 p.m. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at the "Cannonball Cafe" from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The event will proceed rain or shine, and more details are available on the Pike County Historical Society's website.
