Freezing rain is expected to create dangerous driving conditions across North Jersey from Friday night (December 27) into Saturday morning (December 28). The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Hunterdon, Sussex, Morris, Somerset, and Warren counties, effective from 7 p.m. Friday to 9 a.m. Saturday. Ice accumulations could reach up to one-tenth of an inch, making roads, sidewalks, and bridges very slippery.

Motorists are advised to slow down and exercise caution while driving. The weather service warns that untreated surfaces could be particularly hazardous. Temperatures are expected to be in the upper 20s to low 30s, which could lead to icy patches on roads and walkways.

While similar conditions are anticipated in Bergen, Essex, Hudson, Passaic, and Union counties, no advisories have been issued for these areas as of Thursday evening. According to the National Weather Service, nighttime travel could become slippery and hazardous, especially on bridges and overpasses.

Looking ahead, a storm system is expected to bring heavy rain and warmer air to the region on Sunday (December 29), with temperatures rising into the 50s and 60s. This could lead to flooding, particularly in areas with snowmelt. Residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather conditions and exercise caution when traveling.
