As Halloween approaches, the most popular candies in the Tri-State area have been revealed. According to data from CandyStore.com, Sour Patch Kids is the top choice in New York, while New Jersey prefers Tootsie Pops. In Pennsylvania, M&M's take the top spot. The data is based on the last 17 years of sales data from the months leading up to Halloween.
In New York, Hot Tamales and Candy Corn came in second and third place respectively. In New Jersey, M&Ms and Skittles were the second and third most popular candies. Pennsylvania's second and third favorites were Hershey's Minis and Skittles.
Interestingly, on a national level, M&M's have overtaken Reese's Cups as the nation's preferred Halloween candy for the first time since CandyStore.com has been tracking the data. The National Retail Federation estimates that Americans will spend about $3.5 billion on Halloween candy this year, a slight dip from the $3.6 billion spent in 2023.
