A fallen Vietnam War veteran from New Jersey, James E. Gosselin, has been added to the state’s memorial after a clerical error was discovered. According to NJ.com, records for Gosselin from Pleasantville, New Jersey had his hometown previously listed as Pleasantville, Pennsylvania. A ceremony held yesterday officially marked the correction and celebrated his addition to the memorial. Gosselin was a Navy Corpsman and combat medic for the Marines who died in 1968 during the Battle of Hue. He is listed on the February 2 panel to signify when he died.
Gosselin was born and raised in Plainfield and initially joined the Army after high school before serving in the Navy. He was killed in action while serving as a Navy Corpsman and combat medic for the Marines during the Battle of Huế. He was 26 years old when he died.
Gosselin’s addition to the memorial takes the total number of names to more than 1,560. The ceremony was attended by dozens of people, including members of the American Legion, Jewish War Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars and a large group from Gosselin’s hometown. Pleasantville High School’s marching band, along with the school’s Junior ROTC, traveled to perform at the event.
