According to the NJ Herald, Hayek's Market installed clear plastic shields at their two checkout counters on Thursday.
These shields are a test for Acrylite, who manufactures the shields to be a barrier between checkout clerks and customers.
T.H.I. in Blairstown installed the shields for Hayek's.
Part-time cashier, Aine Ferguson said the only issue has been when customers were putting their items on the conveyor belt and "bumped the edge." Other than this minor issue, there have been no major issues.
Hayek noted besides being a "mob scene," there have been a lot of people who email their order, drive to the store and then call when they have arrived in the parking lot, where an employee will deliver their meal curbside.
Hayek also mentioned since the shields went up very easily, they might end up becoming a "flu season" feature, if not a permanent fixture once the coronavirus subsides.
Several larger markets will begin to use these barriers as well.
