According to NJ.com, authorities say a Lakewood man randomly and repeatedly stabbed a resident at the town's municipal building and punched a police officer on Feb. 7.
47-year-old Reginald Patillo has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault of an officer, resisting arrest and weapons offenses in the attack that occurred around 11 a.m. The attack was on the second floor of the complex, which is where police headquarters are housed as well.
Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Patillo stabbed a resident multiple times in the neck and head as the victim was getting into an elevator. Municipal workers overheard the attack and sounded an alarm, where officers responded. "While being questioned, Patillo attacked one of the officers by striking him with a closed fist," Billhimer said.
Officers were able to subdue Patillo and recovered a folding knife, according to Lakewood police Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith.
Police also said the attacker acted alone and although the investigation in ongoing, the stabbing appeared random. All injuries do not appear life-threatening.
