According to NJ.com, former treasurer of an Elks Lodge in Ocean County faces up to five years in prison after she admitted to stealing over $119,000 from their organization within a three year time frame.
Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says 46-year-old Christine Wilbert, of Lakehurst, pleaded guilty on Jan. 25 to second degree theft and is scheduled to be sentenced on May 3.
Wilbert admitted to writing over 50 checks to herself, adding up to $119,000 between April 2013 and June 2016, all while serving as the treasurer for the Toms River Elks Lodge #1075. This money was intended to be donated to charities, civil organizations and help those in need.
Along with the checks, Wilbert had stolen cash that she was supposed to deposit into the Lodge's bank account.
