Here's today's feel-good story:
The Earth's climate is stable and hospitable due to the amount of water on the planet. A new study suggests that many more planets could sustain life due to the amount of water, more than previously thought, on those planets.
The water is likely embedded in rock rather than flowing like rivers and oceans on the surface of these planets.
“It was a surprise to see evidence for so many water worlds orbiting the most common type of star in the galaxy,” said first author on the new paper and a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Chicago, Rafael Luque. “It has enormous consequences for the search for habitable planets.”
